This week on THAT’S AWSM! Emma, a seventeen-year-old sports enthusiast from Mississauga First Nation and Logan Staats, a multitalented musician and the inaugural winner on the Canadian TV show The Launch, dare to glide through the air as they try paragliding for the first time. But before they do, watch as they meet a hat maker and funnel their creative energy into making hats fit for the stage. Let’s see if they leave their hats on the ground in this episode of THAT’S AWSM!
Did you know that when you go cross country paragliding you can reach 5000-6000m in altitude and you can even travel from city to city! Some people even end up crossing the border… which can cause a little bit of trouble when they’re trying to get home! Distance Vol Libre will get you where you want to go and is a great introduction to the world of paragliding.

People who have seen Logan perform know that he is always rocking his stylish hats, what some people don’t know is that he actually makes his hats himself…because his head is too big and oddly shaped to wear conventional hats! But hat making actually allows him to be creative in another way apart from music.
Hat making is otherwise known as “Millinery” – a term first used in London in the 1500s. The name devolved because many of the women’s fashion items that were popular at the time – gloves, ribbons and straw hats – were imported from Milan!
Check out this very cool shop where Emma and Logan learned some hat making skills!

You may recognize him from his roles on Blackstone and Delmer & Marta, or you may have heard that he’s produced a few films and web series himself, but it’s time to get to know DARCY WAITE as host of That’s AWSM! Outgoing, sporty, goofy, warm, and entertaining, Darcy is down to try any and all of our AWSM activities… unfortunately he doesn’t often get to! He can recite every single line from every Will Ferrell movie ever made, and isn’t too crazy about vegetables, but there is nothing he loves more than meeting teens from communities all over Canada and helping them live their best AWSM lives – which makes him the perfect guy for the job!

Emma has a passion for taking photographs and keeping memories. She loves sports especially longboarding and skateboarding and even hung off a golf cart once while on a skateboard. But when it comes to her future Emma would like to become a geologist as she is fascinated by geodes and crystals. She believes in the power of family and hopes to one day give back to all of those people in her life who have helped her on her path.

Logan Staats is a multitalented musician from Six Nations of the Grand River Territory near Brantford, Ontario. He is the inaugural winner of The Launch TV show and was mentored by Shania Twain. His single The Lucky Ones was number one on iTunes and is a great blend of folk, pop and his soulful voice. Logan could be called a burger connoisseur, with his favorite being one from a well-known fast-food chain (think Golden Arches!) but he is also a huge fan of the humble scone dog!! He loves to skateboard and flip some tricks but these days you are more likely to find him practicing his guitar before heading up on stage.
